HEʻEIA, O‘AHU (Nov. 8, 2024) — Windward Mall’s Farmers Market, organized by Plenty of Aloha, will celebrate its 15th anniversary throughout November with a series of events featuring giveaways, expanded vendor lineups, and live entertainment—culminating in a special event on Nov. 17, to mahalo the community for its support. “Ho‘omaika‘i to Plenty of Aloha and its vendors for 15 years of partnership in supporting local farmers and business owners, making this one of O‘ahu’s favorite markets,” said Cesar Topacio, senior general manager of Windward Mall. “At Windward Mall, we envision a gathering place that serves our community, and the farmers market has been instrumental in bringing that vision to life.”
Windward Mall’s Farmers Market was recognized as Hawai‘i’s top farmers market and ranked third in the Southwest region by the American Farmland Trust’s 16th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration™, held in 2024. As Hawai‘i’s only indoor, air-conditioned market, the Windward Mall Farmers Market operates every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring over 50 vendors offering fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, seafood, and local specialties. “It’s incredibly inspiring to reflect on the 15-year journey at Windward Mall and the meaningful connections we’ve fostered within our community,” said Nicole Smythe, owner of Plenty of Aloha. “Mahalo to our dedicated vendors, Windward Mall and the community for their unwavering support. Nurturing a thriving community begins with pilina and kōkua from everyone — residents and businesses alike — and this farmers market exemplifies that spirit.”
Windward Mall is pleased to be home to the Plenty of Aloha Farmers Market, which has recently been recognized as the number one farmers market in Hawai‘i by the American Farmland Trust. The 16th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration™ is a national event honoring the role of farmers markets that ran between June 1 and July 31, 2024. More than 1,500 markets nationwide participated in the 2024 celebration with over 97,000 votes.
“Windward Mall is proud of how Plenty of Aloha has evolved our farmers market since 2022. We are honored to be home to one of America’s favorite farmers markets of 2024 as we celebrate 15 years of being home to a farmers market on Sunday, Nov. 17,” said Cesar Topacio, senior general manager of Windward Mall. “Our team and Plenty of Aloha work hard to bring the farmers market to our community as it helps to support our local farmers. Every Wednesday and Sunday, the farmers market is a beautiful reflection of what brings us together to buy local, honor local vendors, and showcase the beauty of our He‘eia community. Mahalo to American Farmland Trust for this recognition, to our local farmers, and amazing community for their unwavering support over the years.”
Since 2008, the Americas Farmers Market Celebration has highlighted the key role farmers markets play in American communities and our larger food system. Farmers markets not only educate consumers about where food comes from, they also foster direct relationships between community members and farmers to help create a more fair, sustainable, and just food system.
The Plenty of Aloha Farmers Market is the only indoor, air-conditioned farmers market in Hawai‘i with vendors located on both levels of Windward Mall. The market also offers the largest selection of fresh fruits and vegetables than any other farmers market in all of Hawai‘i.
